In the film "Bride of Frankenstein," the character of Dr. Pretorius is a scientist who scours graveyards in search of human remains to re-animate in life-reviving experiments. I often think about fragmentation and about how a body of work comes to life through the combination and juxtaposition of disjointed parts. I drew this portrait as a tribute to the kindred spirit. Incidentally, Ernest Thesiger, the actor who played Dr. P, once had his portrait made by JS Sargent.
